Case Studies
Online Retail
This case study focuses on the testing Qual IT carried out for a
client in the Australian market during 2010.
The client runs an online retail shop for experience gift
vouchers. Specific areas of this website had been re-designed
within the previous couple of years, but previous projects hadn't
comprised the website navigation, accessibility and search
optimization as a whole.
The existing website was to be restructured to increase
opportunities to sell, improve usability and to align branding
across all pages. Qual IT was approached by an Australian test
management company to deliver testing services for this
project.

Website Testing
Qual IT was initially approached by the State Owned Enterprise
client, Company A to provide test consultation support for their
upcoming website. The role would include reviewing the level and
extent of the testing that was being proposed by the vendor and
also to determine the scope and focus of a client based UAT
activity. Qual IT was also given the responsibility to conduct work
with the business and vendor to complete the UAT testing.
The project (their website) is a concept whereby a consumer can
try/be sent samples of products. Access to the products will be
through a website with the consumer able to order via the website
or via text message once they have registered the required
details.

Guidance in Test Strategies
Qual IT was initially approached by an agricultural sector
client (Company A) as they were in the build phase of a major
project and wanted some guidance as to how best approach
testing.
The project was a multi-vendor one and Company A had already
been involved with one of the vendors on an earlier project whereby
the end-user experience had not been good. Company A was keen for
advice and some governance of the testing project.
The project was adding a CRM Module to SAP and reconfiguring
their customer model. Additionally, they were incorporating
Software as a Service capability to their Salesforce. There was to
be one source of truth, CRM, with feeds back to their legacy
systems via a DB2 database. The local intranet was being upgraded
as a front door into CRM for the Salesforce or via text
message.

FMIS System
The client, a SOE (Company A) was looking to replace its current
financial system due to significant concerns over the stability of
the current system, processing issues, the number of manual
workarounds in place, limitations to current system's reporting
capabilities and the heavy reliance on using Excel to provide
standard financial reports.
Following a robust evaluation, Microsoft Dynamics AX to be
implemented by Vendor A in partnership with Vendor B was assessed
as the best fit, lowest risk, and preferred solution.

Test Process Review
This case study focuses on a Test Process Review Qual IT carried
out on a New Zealand State Owned Enterprise during 2007. The Client
(name withheld) operates in the item delivery, logistics and retail
sectors. The Client has a large IT department with a blend of
internal and outsourced development, but predominantly operates
with an outsourced development model.
Challenges & Issues:
The Client was regularly experiencing major budget and time
overruns on its projects in the effort to achieve quality software
releases into production. Common causes were poor initial business
requirements and low quality code releases from vendors, meaning
that testing became a problematic process.
